Willow rubbed her eyes at a two-storied structure made of sandstone. “Are we here? Is this your home?”

“Sit tight. Let me get off first, and I’ll help you down.” Leo swung from the saddle and grinned. “I’ve always thought the barn was almost as pretty as the house.”

“It’s beautiful.” Willow swallowed. “That’s the barn?”

Leo placed his arm around her waist. “Lean in, and I’ll ease you down slowly.”

Willow landed with a soft swoosh and blinked. She was surprised how much she enjoyed feeling his arms around her.

“You feeling okay?”

“Yes. Just a little woozy.”

Deputy Scott took the reins of Leo’s palomino. “Go ahead and take Willow to the house. I’ll help your pa with the horses.”

“Thanks, Noah.” Leo extended his hand. “I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your support today.”

“Glad everything turned out as well as it did.” The deputy grabbed Leo’s hand in a tight grip, then slapped him on the shoulder. “Looking forward to you bringing Willow by the house. My wife and I’d like to invite y’all to supper, once she’s feeling up to it.”

“I’d like that.” Willow stumbled. Her cheeks flamed. “I’m not typically this much trouble.”

“You’re no trouble. Do you need me to carry you?”

“No, I feel better. The dizziness seems to come and go when I tilt my neck a certain way.” The wind rattled her skirts, and she shivered. Leo placed the puppy on the ground and wrapped the blanket around her shoulders. “Do you feel like meeting my pa and brother-in-law before we go to the house? They’re watering the livestock.”

“I’d love to.” Willow leaned against Leo’s arm and rounded the corner, stopping in a large courtyard with two outbuildings. A tall man similar in stature to Leo but with dark hair and eyes stood grinning and watching the puppy circle and bark at Dr. Benton’s feet. A younger broad-shouldered man dressed in rugged brown work pants and a gingham shirt kneeled on the ground, calling to a pup.

Leo spoke softly in her ear, “Looks like they’ve uncovered your surprise already.” He turned toward the men. “Willow, this is my pa, Elton Weaver, and my sister’s husband, Daniel Lawrence.”

The younger man rose and tipped his hat. He was a head shorter than Leo and his father. “Nice to meet you.”

Leo’s father took long strides forward and took her hand. “Welcome to your new home, young lady. I look forward to getting better acquainted after you’ve had time to recover.” He pulled on his ear. “Leo, why don’t you take Miss Graham to the house to meet your mother and sister? We’ll take care of everything here.”

They walked a short distance past two outbuildings and along a path to a two-storied sandstone farmhouse with a wraparound front porch. Willow gasped. “It’s beyond anything I ever imagined. It’s lovely.”

“I told you it was prettier than the barn.” He chuckled and pulled her closer to his side.

“You never told me how grand your home is.” Willow’s eyebrows narrowed. “Or did you?”

Leo waggled his eyebrows. “You know I’ve been thinking.
